Today is release day for The Meadows, so I thought I’d share a little of the inspiration behind the story.
Any fans of Paranormal Witness, Paranormal Survivor, or A Haunting out there? I’m a huge fan and an avid watcher of all of these shows. But my fascination with them stems from the fact that I’ve had a couple of experiences with the supernatural. Once, while touring the underground vaults in Scotland, a black mass went right past me. Another time, I was visiting a house in rural Virginia, where I heard disembodied voices and felt something watching me. Nothing violent or too terrible, but scary enough.
The research I’ve done on paranormal encounters suggests that more and more people are experiencing physical altercations with malevolent spirits and demons–interactions which often include being held down, pushed bitten, scratched, strangled, and even raped. Individuals and families in this situation often live in silent torment because they fear people will think they’re crazy or simply won’t believe them.
I think more folks have had supernatural experiences than we know. Hamlet wasn’t kidding when he told Horatio, “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy” (1.5.167-8).
In other words, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes.
What about you? Have you had any experiences with the paranormal?
