Newest Member of the Gothic Group

The last two weeks, I’ve been living through an interesting bout of dog illnesses. Our oldest and largest greyhound was diagnosed with lymphoma back in late March and was given about a year to live. In an unrelated incident, he contracted a dog “bug” while at the groomers and proceeded to pass it along to our Italian greyhound. Both dogs had vomiting and diarrhea, and I ran about 4,000 loads of laundry, consisting of towels, sheets, dog bedding, washcloths. Not to mention how many times I’ve used the steam cleaner over the last fortnight.

In the midst of it all, we adopted a newbie. Everyone, this is Pixie.

Pixie is also an Italian greyhound (but the smallest I’ve ever seen). She’s three years old and has traveled from New Mexico to Alaska to Ohio to Pennsylvania to Virginia. Unfortunately, she too caught the “dog bug” and added to the towel, bedding, sheets laundry, but we are so smitten with her.

If you’re interested in finding out about greyhound adoption (retired racer or Italian grey), I’m always happy to chat and suggest some rescue groups. Sighthound Underground and Healing Hearts Italian Greyhound Rescue are always a great place to start!

Any dog lovers out there?

  1. I love that you adopt rescued greyhounds. I have friends that spend $1000 on a dog, just to get a pure breed. Personally, I only want to rescue shelter dogs. As for all that laundry – aren’t you thankful for a washing machine and dryer??!!
