X is for Xanadu

Here is it is … the letter we all fear.

So this is what I’ve got.

By definition, it’s a place of idyllic or mythical beauty.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge immortalized it in his poem “Kubla Khan.”

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

And it goes on from there.

But I have to confess that my main connection is to a movie from 1980 starring Olivia Newton-John–a fantasy romance that involved Heaven, a Greek muse, disco, and roller skates! What more could you possibly want?

Let’s watch a little shall, we? Click HERE for a trailer for Xanadu. And even better, click HERE for a very strange sequence with Gene Kelly … and jugglers … and one of the Gibb brothers … and ELO … all leading up to the epic title song!
